Routine is essential to having a family, but it also can leave life feeling a little mundane at times. Monday through Friday it is get up, get ready, go to work, go to school, dance class, swim class, soccer practice etc. etc. etc… it is all a wonderful part of life, but sometimes can make it seem like you are stuck on repeat.
I love coming up with fun little “Date Night In” ideas to spice up the week and add some spontaneity to a normal Friday night where we don’t otherwise have anything spectacular planned.
This “cheese picnic” was accomplished in one quick stop to the grocery store. It wasn’t my favorite grocery store, so my cheese choices were a little basic, but I grabbed some jams and honey to spread on top to make them a little more flavorful and creative.
Here are some suggestions for supplies:
- Wine (DUH)
- Cheese… I used Brie, and goat cheese (chevre). Others I love: Delice de Bourgogne, Comte, Humboldt Fog, Camembert, Manchego
- Baguette
- Rosemary crackers
- Spanish Almonds
- Artichoke hearts
- Cured meats… Prosciutto, Pancetta, Salami, Soppressata, Porchetta are all good choices
- Extra virgin live oil
- Balsamic vinegar
- Jams… I especially love cherry or fig when paired with cheese!
I threw a tablecloth down quickly and spruced up my spread with my favorite stone cheese board and wine decanter! The best part of dinner? I didn’t have to cook ANYTHING! <3
I hope this quick and easy date night in idea gives you some inspiration!

what a fun date night in idea! not too many better pairings than wine & cheese 🙌🏻
I could live off of wine and cheese pretty sure! 😋
That’s for sure one of my husband’s favorite date night menus – mine too of course! What we also like to do is gather the same sort of food and take it to a winery near us called Bogle (excellent quality and affordable, btw).
I have heard of Bogle! That’s a fun idea… we went wine tasting in walla walla and it seems that most wineries encourage picnicking out there!
That’s such a great idea! And everything is so beautifully arranged! Very tasteful 🙂
Thank you!
Delicious, Abbey! Do you have an email? I wanted to ask your
advice on blog stuff.
Of course!
Love wine and cheese night! I might have to host one soon! Great pairings 🙂
It’s my favorite!
I LOVE this idea!! I recently made up a box for a movie date night in (a couple of cheap DVDs, some popcorn and the boyfriend’s favourite sweets!) and am loving these different ideas. I will most definitely be stealing this idea and carrying it out in the next few weeks. Wine and cheese? Perfect!
That sounds really fun! I love coming up with ways to make a normal night in a little more exciting 🙂
Looks sexy! Love it! I’m all about staying in for a date. There’s no place like home!!
