For our next stop on the Walla Walla winery tour, we have now moved to the downtown area. Forgeron Cellars was a winery recommended to us by a very knowledgeable wineo in Walla Walla. We told her my husband loves big deep reds and she said Forgeron was the place to try!
When I say downtown, the Forgeron tasting room is just a few blocks off the main streets, but is so worth the short walk. They are tucked inside a unsuspecting brick building, which is actually part of their namesake. Their owner Marie-Eve Gilla was born in France, and the name Forgeron is a nod to the old blacksmith building they are located inside. Her dream was to create French Bordeaux style reds here in the U.S., and that I believe she has done exactly.
My husband was tasting and I was being the parent at that moment, so when he was raving (excessively) over how good the reds were I kind-of shrugged him off like “okay, I think that’s the wine talking”, and told him not to sign up for a wine club, which he subsequently did. Well a week or so later when we got the cases home and he talked me into cracking one open, I saw what he was raving about. Their Cab Sauv was one of the most balanced and beautiful reds I have ever had.
Naturally, I am glad that we are wine club members here now, and my wine rack is stacked with some beautiful wines just waiting for a special occasion to be opened. Living in Western Washington, it is very exciting to me that they have a satellite tasting room in Woodinville as well! Pictures below are from their Walla Walla location.
