My all-time favorite items for traveling with a baby!

Living across the country from my family and where I grew up naturally puts me in a position to do lots of traveling. Since having kids the amount of travel I do has significantly increased... my daughters are the only grandbabies on my side of the family so I can't keep them hostage here on the west coast! With my first child we didn't muster up the courage to make our first cross-country pilgrimage until she was 8 months old. With our second, it was at 2 months! Here are some of my favorite items that made the whole process that much easier. What I consider travel essentials if you are a parent traveling with a baby!

Why your child should wear a life jacket a lot more than you think

Car seat safety in our culture seems pretty cut and dry, and the majority of people understand it. However, a recent (almost drowning) emergency at work made me realize that safety with our kids around water is not as well outlined. As a person working in the marine industry, I do feel a strong obligation to advocate for water safety for all the children out there - boating or not! This post contains good information on when kids should wear life jackets, and how to find the right one to fit them. Thank you for reading, and please do share with other parents out there!

My toddler figured out that I fake sleep at bedtime and now I’m screwed

Fake sleeping in the same room as your kid to get them to fall asleep - I think EVERY parent has done this. Haven't you seen that viral video of the mom fake sleeping on her toddler's nursery floor, then crawling out slowly after her kid passes out? The move is pretty standard, but sadly for me my toddler has not only figured out that I am faking it, but has a strategy to get me to crack too. You can't just break formation in front of a toddler like that!!! The bed time struggle is so real right now... please tell me there are other toddler moms out there who are on the struggle bus too!

So you had a baby and your dog disowned you… the story of transitioning our dog to life with a baby, and some advice to help you!

How do you prepare your dog for life with a new baby? This can be particularly difficult, especially in instances like ours where we had our dog for YEARS before having a kid, and she had limited exposure to children beforehand. My daughter is over two years old now and we are STILL working on this transition, but are doing much better than we initially were. I hope that our story helps you in your journey to get your dog to like your baby after spending a long time as your "only child".

Scary Mom Experience – Our Run-In With Reactive Airway Disease

Reactive Airway Disease... what is it? If your baby is suffering from breathing problems, you may have heard the term "reactive airway disease" before. It basically means that your child's airways are delicate and breathing can be affected by many things such as cold weather and illness, and they may or may not have asthma. Asthma is not diagnosed until at least age two... something I did not know! This story is about our run-in with reactive airway disease that landed us in the hospital, and the amazing care we received from Children's Hospital in Seattle.
