I am not a simple party thrower. I can’t just go to the store and buy a cake and candles, sing “Happy Birthday” and call it good. My Pinterest addiction is too strong and I cannot resist the urge to theme a party, especially when it is a milestone birthday!
This November was my dad’s big 6-0. My siblings and I really wanted to do something fun/special for him, but also knew he was highly sensitive to his new respective age. An “Over the Mountain” party would not be well received, and we didn’t want to put him off with his own celebration.
We are a family of wine-lovers. As I searched around for decor, I came across these napkins that read “Aged to Perfection”, and I knew that was it! No mention of age, but definitely ties in with the love of wine and the fact it was an older milestone birthday. Plus, we were spending his birthday week together in the Oregon wine country of Willamette Valley! It all came together too perfectly. For wine lovers I absolutely recommend the Willamette, especially McMinnville where we stayed, but that is a story for another time!

Anyways, decorating for the party was actually pretty easy, thanks to Amazon, Etsy, and the fact that I have never thrown out a single wine cork my entire life (I knew they would come in handy at some point, haha!).
Due to the party theme and the fact we were spending a week in the land of Pinot Noir, I decided to kick off the decor with some wine tumblers we could use for tasting over the week. I found a shop on Etsy that has silly little wine/booze related sayings they will etch into your tumbler, and they turned out especially perfect! The saying on mine was “Sip Me Baby One More Time”, my husband got “Let’s Get Ready to Stumble”, and they even made a custom “Aged to Perfection” one for my dad.

I grabbed the “Aged to Perfection” banner, and these cute wine-related photo booth props from Amazon. There were cocktail napkins and a cake topper that matched the theme too! Then a set of “60” balloons was my last touch. I like these balloons – though they are simple, you fill them with air instead of helium, so they are reusable. I re-gifted them in my local Buy Nothing Group when we got home.
We made a trip to a local winery and did a family tasting tour during the day which was super fun, then in the evening we went out to dinner at a lovely spot in downtown McMinnville. In all, it was super fun, and a nice way to celebrate a milestone birthday without making it all about the age. Below are Amazon links (affiliate) to the decorations I purchased in case you don’t feel like searching on your own 🙂
Thank you McMinnville for being such a great city for us wineos to celebrate in, we had a blast!
