I am sure you are reading this and thinking… “organic sunscreen…really??”
We are not hardcore organic people. We never used organic products before having a kid. However, having a kid appears to be enough to scare people (us) into using healthier products, haha!
The year our little girl was born, there were a TON of news stories going around about the woman who got cancer from using Johnson & Johnson products, and how there are harmful chemicals in most sunscreens, including big names we all have used in our lifetimes, I am sure.
After some research I learned that there really are only two types of sunscreens: chemical based, or mineral based. Chemical based would be all non-organic brands (ex: Banana Boat, Coppertone, etc.) so basically every brand I have EVER heard of. The main chemical you should try to avoid is oxybenzone, and is found in almost all non-organic, non-mineral sunscreens. A good organic sunscreen will use zinc oxide (a mineral) instead.
I was a little unsure of where to start my search for a new brand to use… basically all the normal sunscreens I know are out of the running! Looking into organic brands I was honestly not sure what to try first and worried about trying something and it not working. To make my fears worse, there was a lot of hype going around about the Honest Brand organic sunscreens not working, so we skipped that experiment and landed instantly on an organic product we were EXTREMELY happy with!!
Goddess Garden Organics was a TOTAL win for us! It is easy to find, and we were able to track it down at several grocery stores locally and online. We tried the lotion first, which we found to be VERY thick, and switched over to this spray and LOVED IT!
Yes, of course most importantly it is mineral based, and therefore much better for your health. Second, we have used this with our daughter and stayed out long days on beaches, other boating, and this little girl has never had even a blip of pink skin. The coverage is amazing and we have had no issues with burns at all (with proper application of course). The spray is very easy to apply evenly, even on a fidgety toddler!
So, Goddess Garden Organics sunscreen is my #1 choice for summer sunscreen for you and your littles this year!!

I was just reading more about sunscreen chemicals and why they’re harmful for you! I’ll have to keep my eyes on the labels this summer!
Cool! I use THinkBaby sunscreen … I too am scared of chemicals for my kids!
ohh this is really interesting! I’m going to get some of this for our little one. Thanks for the links! 🙂
Of course! It worked awesome for us last summer! Now we just need some sun here in Seattle so we have a reason to use it again! 😎
We just picked up song Goddess Garden last night based on your recommendation! Thanks for making my shopping trip easier… especially after I spent like 30 minutes trying to pick out a healthy bug spray! 😂
I think you will love it! We just got back from spending a weekend in the 90s east of the mountains and Viv didn’t have a spec of pink on her… I have been so happy with the results. What did you end up deciding on for bug spray?! I haven’t been using any but was paranoid about ticks in Eastern WA and was wishing I knew of a good organic one.
