The tree-topper debate is a big one in the world of Christmas decor, just as is the debate between white or colored lights. Of course, Christmas is a religious holiday, so there are Christian stories and symbols tied to many traditional decorations, such as the star topping the Christmas tree to represent the Star of Bethlehem.
I however am not a very religious person – I celebrate Christmas more as a time of year where we give back to others in need, give a little extra love to family and friends, and cherish special traditions with our loved ones. I know the stories behind it and see their significance, but celebrate more as a way to remind yourself of what is important in your life and in the world, and how you can make it all better.
So, my decision to choose a star as my tree topper was not a religiously backed one – just a personal preference. In years past I had a solid gold sparkly one that wasn’t lit but carried me through my twenties and a few good years of city life, and after it was just too crooked and sap covered to go on any longer, we switched to a new lit one which I think really brings the tree all together well.
Above, the OG tree in my city apartment. Below is our tree this year!
So, how do you top your Christmas tree and is there any story behind your choice? I would love to hear!

we actually have bow that tops our tree! but I would choose a star if we didn’t use a bow!
Very pretty tree! I go with a combination of artificial flowers, which is a pain I admit, but do love how they look.
I love both of your trees!
