Parenting is a wonderful experience, but it also is an experience where you get to embarrass yourself… a lot.
I decided at two to enroll my daughter in dance class. Not only does she has a ton of crazy toddler energy to burn off, but she is not a home-body at all. She loves being out and about and gets extremely restless if we don’t pop out of the house for some kind of activity on any given day. So, I decided to sacrifice sleeping in on my day off for the sake of getting her out, and enrolled her in a toddler dance class.
This is where the embarrassment comes in. Dance classes are hard to find for two-year-old’s, since they are in that lovely stage of life where they just run around in circles instead of listening to direction. I was lucky enough to find an option close to our house, but it is a mommy-and-me class, which mostly involves me doing a below mediocre job at re-creating the dance moves, and my toddler running away while I look dumb.
Though I feel relatively sure she won’t retain many of these memories, we had fun and it accomplished the main objective of getting us out of the house for a while. We also made a fun tradition of going out to brunch afterwards, and it was a cute little routine that we enjoyed. We are taking the summer off due to busy work schedules, but plan to start back up in the fall.
So moms, have any of you jumped on the embarrassment train and joined a toddler mommy-and-me dance class? The kind where relatively nothing is accomplished, and every week there is at least one parent giving their child the “if you are going to act like this, we are leaving” speech?

One thing I was surprised to find after enrolling in this class was how hard it was to find dance clothes! I thought little ballet slippers sounded like a Target find, but quickly resorted to Amazon Prime after a day wasted shopping and no dance clothes were found. I have a friend who danced for the PNB (Pacific Northwest Ballet), and Capezio was the brand she recommended, and you can shop them in the link below.

Awww too cute!
This is so cute!!!
This is the cutest!
Haha, this is so cute!! I’m glad that you guys made a little routine around it, sounds like a fun trip out 🙂
It is quite chaotic but we do have fun 😊
This is just too cute!
SO cute!
A for effort. 🙂 She’s so cute with her bunny!! (bunny?)
Our Target sells ballet slippers, and Payless sells a brand made by the American Ballet Theater – my 4yo has been wearing those for years … as slippers! (I do the same, shhh.)
What area of the US are you in? I am quite jealous, it was so hard to find! Though once I knew what we were looking for Amazon did have great options. The lovey is “Polka” her puppy dog that I was put in charge of while she was dancing 🙂
lovely❤
Looks like so much fun.. my little one is due in 2 weeks… I will definitely look for something fun like this to do with her when she’s older.. great post
Wow congratulations! What an exciting time.
Adorable! I can’t wait to start dance class with my little ones too!
It is very fun and oh so precious, but very much a test of your patience too haha!
So cute!! I did a mommy and me music class when my daughter was 18 months. It was fun, and I think she really learned a lot. I had to get over feeling silly pretty quickly. Your pictures are so adorable! She’ll love looking at this when she’s older.
Wow, that looks like fun, but I can understand that things don’t usually go perfect. I go to this music school with my almost two year old, because he is very shy and it usually goes well, but sometimes not so much. He likes the snack part the best. We have fun and that’s the main thing!
So cute!
Thank you!
