What’s cooking, Abbey Co.? My favorite cookbooks at the moment (spoiler alert, they are vegetarian!)

Just because a food is entirely plant-based absolutely does not mean it is flavorless or unfulfilling! But often times people think that about vegetarian cooking, but I think they just don't know where to start! So, I am sharing two of my favorite vegetarian cookbooks that helped spring me into a more vegetarian lifestyle at home.

Tips to help get yourself in a vegetarian mindset – vegetarian cooking can be easy!

Easy and sustainable campsite meal – breakfast burritos!

We just enjoyed a super peaceful camping trip recently at the Cama Beach cabins on Camano Island. When I visit a place so well preserved in nature, I think hard about reducing the amount of trash I bring in and out - it can almost be overwhelming the amount of single use products we bring camping if you do not bring notice to it! With Labor Day weekend being the last big camping weekend of the summer, I thought I would post this now and hopefully inspire some of you to give this easy recipe a try and keep some plastic utensils/plates out of the landfills at the same time. Enjoy!

Packing a ‘Green’ Cooler with NO Single-Use Products!

This year I challenged myself to pack a sustainable cooler this SeaFair Sunday and accomplished just that. It was actually super easy and it caused me to pack healthier things to eat (versus a bunch of pre-packaged junk food) and we had no garbage to haul back with us when we were done boating for the day! With how easy it was, I decided to write about it and hopefully inspire you guys to think about packing your cooler differently and keeping some garbage out of the lakes and landfills.

Sustainable Living – Ditching Plastic Utensils

Going green as a family seems daunting to so many people because it is talked about on such a large scale. I am trying to help people tackle the sustainable mindset by breaking it down into one small category at a time. Today we are focusing on a small but very impactful item... plastic utensils! Here are some quick tips on how to ditch one use plastics and switch for an eco-friendly product.

Making your Coffee Addiction Sustainable

So many people in this world have a coffee habit... with a full-time job, a new baby and a toddler I know I sure do! However our modern coffee addictions unfortunately come with a lot of waste. Here are some ideas on how to keep the caffeine flowing without tossing so much trash in the landfill at the same time. #coffee #sustainable #gogreen #greeninitiative

Giving Back Day 2- The Environment

It has been a huge goal of mine to work on reducing waste in our household this year, and to live a 'green-er' lifestyle! I have found it extremely difficult as a family of three to not put out lots of waste, but these tricks are easy things we have started doing to help reduce the number of items we throw in the trash. Is there anything your family does too?
